Science Courses

I think Sagan said it best (as he normally does), “science is more than a body of knowledge, it’s a way of thinking, a way of skeptically interrogating the world.” I hope that this idea pervades my teaching.

Here you will find resources for the science courses I have taught. As it takes time for me to reformat my lessons into web format, there will be a lot of updating occurring here! Right now, I am focusing on the courses I have most recently taught, Science 10 and Science 14.

Each course is directly linked to the Alberta Program of Studies.  Since education is becoming more transparent with regard to the curriculum, I have also created “I can” statements that can be used as a student reference, or as a teacher checklist to track when a student has achieved a particular goal (summative assessment).

The units are set up as an inquiry based process. Each “big idea” taught will have a corresponding performance task that students will need to consider throughout the lessons. In this manner, students will be encouraged to use critical thinking skills, evaluate their understanding, and apply scientific concepts to applicable world situations.
